Overview
The Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme is investing funding to level up facilities across the UK, including in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This UK-wide programme provides funding to make essential facility and pitch improvements, so that these communities have a high-quality pitch to play on, and is a clear demonstration of the governments commitment to levelling up all corners of the United Kingdom.
The projects were selected as part of the 2021 to 2022 programme for their ability to deliver improved facilities in deprived areas, support multi-sport use and increase participation among currently under-represented groups this focuses primarily on women and girls, disabled players and those in deprived areas.
Successful projects
The projects which benefited from funding in 2021 to 2022 were confirmed following the announcement of 25 million at Spring Budget 2021.
The 2021 to 2022 programme was delivered by DCMSs delivery partners. In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the programme is delivered by the relevant Football Association. In England, the programme is delivered by the Football Foundation.
Please note that the project lists below are provided by DCMSs delivery partners, and the information may change as the projects develop. For example, a project may withdraw from the programme, or rolling investment might mean further projects are added in future. The spreadsheets will be updated where needed to reflect these changes.
England
39 million of government funding has supported over 150 projects across England in the 2021 to 2022 financial year. This is made up of 18 million of existing government commitments to grassroots sports, and a further 21 million from the Chancellors Spring Budget 2021.
Partnered with funding from the FA and Premier League, this investment will directly benefit communities up and down the country. These locally led projects are helping to make the Local Football Football Facility Plans a reality, and to take us one step closer to delivering the pitches every community needs.
The projects cover a wide range of interventions, from artificial pitch provision to changing room improvements, depending on community needs.
Scotland
In Scotland, the investment is targeted at critical 3G pitch replacement and is being delivered by the Scottish FA.
Seventeen projects across Scotland benefitted from this 2 million investment, helping communities maintain decent pitches for community use.
Wales
In Wales, projects are delivering a range of improvements to grassroots facilities, including developing better changing facilities for women and players with disabilities.
Seventeen projects will receive a share of the 1.3 million allocated.
