What the grant can be spent on

Activities you can use the grant for include:

  • IT costs (for example, aligning 2 different IT systems)
  • additional administration requirements associated with partnership development
  • additional quality assurance costs
  • legal costs

The partnership grant cannot be spent on:

  • travel
  • hospitality
  • marketing or advertising
  • website development or maintenance
  • consultancy

Reporting and accountability

Providers who choose to spend grant funding on ineligible activities will be liable for grant clawback.

We will collect expenditure information as part of the financial assurance process on 15 March 2023 and on 14 July 2023.

Conditions of funding

There will be 2 conditions of funding, in addition to the standard grant terms and conditions.

  1. Youre required to establish new partnerships to recruit trainees in specific geographic areas identified by the Department for Education (DfE). Partnerships will only be eligible for funding if they are formed with either a provider who was accredited prior to the reform, or lead partners of existing ITT providers. These providers must be offering ITT provision in one of the eligible areas listed in Annex A of the grant guidance (PDF, 248 KB, 11 pages).
  2. Youre also required to maintain any other existing ITT provision (for example, early years or further education ITT) that you, or your lead partners, deliver alongside ITT courses leading to qualified teacher status.
