The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) ran a 4-month consultation between 12 July and 15 November 2023. That consultation sought views on updating the Health Protection Notification Regulations 2010 (HPNR).
Following analysis of consultation responses and further consultation with UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) experts, this document sets out the governments response to the consultation.
It is recommended that 8 additional infectious diseases are made notifiable under schedule 1 of the HPNR, and 10 more causative agents are made notifiable by laboratories under schedule 2. Laboratories will also be required to report negative and void test results for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), in addition to positive test results.
Subject to parliamentary approval, the HPNR will be updated on 6 April 2025.
