The government introduced an unprecedented package of measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 to protect millions of jobs and incomes to help ease the financial burden for businesses and the UK population. The Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) was introduced at pace to support self-employed individuals (including members of partnerships) whose business had been adversely affected by COVID-19.
The SEISS interim evaluation sets out findings about the delivery of all 5 grants of the scheme. It also assesses the impact of the first 3 SEISS grants. Due to a lag in receiving Self Assessment data, the final report will assess the impact of all 5 grants.
The SEISS interim evaluation covers topics including scheme implementation, error and fraud, and the impact the SEISS had on self-employed individuals.
The interim evaluation draws on evidence from a range of sources, including internal data, analysis and research.
The SEISS final evaluation is planned for 2023 and will look at the scheme in its entirety. It will also include a value for money assessment.
