The Department of Health and Social Care has introduced a new process for ministerial intervention in the reconfiguration of NHS services from 31 January 2024.

These frequently asked questions explain the role of the Independent Reconfiguration Panel (IRP) under the new process, including how it will advise ministers and how other parties may request advice from the IRP about NHS reconfigurations.
