Wave Energy Scotland is seeking business projects that look at ways of building wave energy converters with alternative materials that could significantly reduce the overall cost of producing energy from waves.

Businesses could win contracts of up to 300,000 to investigate ideas in one of the following material categories:

  • hybrid structures using rotational moulding of polymers
  • elastomers
  • concretes
  • other alternative materials

Projects will be expected to deliver engineering design studies that could be developed in later stages of the competition. Studies will need to address the design of the wave energy converter and assess the materials ability to withstand the typical forces experienced by a converter.

Wave Energy Scotland is a subsidiary of Highlands and Islands Enterprise. Its aim is to support innovative wave energy technologies.
