Legal Aid Agency
Costs guidance
The following guidance provides an overview of the payment scheme, what costs are claimable and how to calculate your fee:
Claim form
All claims must be made on form CAS1.
Claims should be submitted electronically with supporting evidence to CrossExamination@justice.gov.uk
Please note that forms will only be accepted electronically. Any paper forms and evidence submitted to LAA will be securely destroyed without being processed.
Apply for an account
Advocates should have an active legal aid account in order to apply for payment. If you are a solicitor, solicitor-advocate or barrister with an existing legal aid account, you should claim for payment under that account.
If you do not have a legal aid account, the guidance below will help you apply for an account. You must apply for an account in advance of submitting any claim for payment.
