As a bilateral UK-Czech Defence Engagement organisation, BMATT(CZ) provides military training and training assistance, mentoring and advice to international partners in order to build resilience to state threats, develop the capacity of armed forces and contribute to collective regional security.

Training is delivered in 2 ways:

First, throughout the year at Vykov,BMATT(CZ)conducts a series of instructor training and personal development courses. This is multinational training, conducted in English, with a typical instructor training course being 4 weeks in duration and consisting of 30 students from between 11 to 15 countries. Command and leadership is a core theme, with courses to training instructors to teach practicalmilitary skills, to lead in a tactical environment and to train staff in key planning procedures within a multinational HQ (all underpinned by the theme of multi-national cooperation). Some 300+ officers, warrant officers, soldiers, marines and police officers of all ranks are trained at Vykov each year.

Second, each yearBMATT(CZ)deploys small teams known as BMATT Deployed Teams (BDT).A typical deployment is for 4 weeks, to selected countries, to provide a range of training assistance and advice (as requested by the host nations MOD).

The aim of these BDT is to contribute to regional security through the delivery of tactical level training to partner nations (drawn from Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Caucasus).

All training is provided free of charge, less a small food and accommodation charge for students from NATO countries attending Vykov courses.
