Guidance: Diabetic eye screening: use and transfer of patient information

Nhs England

October 17

This document explains how patient and why patient information is used and shared in the NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.

It also explains the General Practice to Diabetic Retinopathy Screening (GP2DRS) system and why we need information about people with diabetes who are eligible for screening.

It includes the responsibilities of general practice and local screening programmes in the use and sharing of personal information. And it explains who we share information with, how we protect the information we use, and patients options with regard to any information we may hold about them.

Please note that GP2DRS is currently only a pilot system and is therefore not available nationally.
