Office of Manpower Economics
Following Geoff Darts retirement last month, Martin Williams has been appointed Director of the Office for Manpower Economics. Martin will take up his post on 15 October.
Martin brings a wealth of experience to OME. He joins from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills where, since 2013, he has been responsible for the governments industrial strategies on Life Sciences, Agricultural Technology and International Education.
Martins civil service career started in the 1980s in the Department of Employment group, where he worked on pay policy and industrial relations, including stints at the Manpower Services Commission and the Health and Safety Executive. In the Department of Education he was a deputy director in the School Workforce Unit, and worked on the Higher Education Act 2004. He was Director of Higher Education Policy through three different machinery of government departmental changes from 2007 to 2013.
