Who needs to tell Ofsted

You can only report changes in your daycare if you are one of the following:

• the nominated individual of an organisation such as a company, charity or partnership
• the sole owner of the business

What you need to tell Ofsted

You need to report changes to Ofsted in relation to certain governance roles. These will depend on the type of organisation and if they are legally responsible for the daycares registration.

If your daycare organisation is a:

• company set up solely or mainly to provide childcare, you must tell Ofsted about anyone who is going to be listed with Companies House as being legally responsible for the company, for example a director
• company set up for another purpose, you must tell Ofsted about anyone who is going to be the nominated individual who deals with Ofsted
• charity set up solely or mainly to provide childcare, you must tell Ofsted about anyone who is going to be listed with the Charities Commission as being legally responsible for the charity, for example a trustee
• partnership, you must tell Ofsted about anyone who is going to be a partner
• committee-run childcare, you must tell Ofsted about anyone who is going to be a committee member

You also need to tell us when:

• someone else will be taking over as the nominated individual
• there are changes to any additional contacts for any setting within your daycare organisation

There are other roles below that you must tell Ofsted about only when the daycare takes place in a home. For daycare that is not in a home, you do not need to tell us about other staff changes.

Daycare in a home (also known as childcare on domestic)

Daycare in the home is where either:

• a childminder is working with 3 or more other childminders or assistants in someones home
• 4 or more adults are working together to provide daycare in someones home

Even if the individual joining the daycare is not in one of the governance roles above, you must still tell Ofsted if both of the following conditions are met:

• they are aged 16 or over
• they live or work in a home that is providing childcare on domestic services

You also need to tell us:

• about changes to the manager of your daycare
• when a child, who is already living at the home, turns 16
• if someone, who is already registered as living at the home, starts working there

Information you will need

To use the service, you will need:

• your Ofsted unique reference number (URN)
• the details of the changes to any people you want to tell Ofsted about

Tell Ofsted about changes

If you are your organisations nominated individual, email enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk to tell us about changes to registered people.

Use the email address associated with yourOfsted registration (this is the address that you receive emails from us on).

In your email, include the following:

• the words report association changes in the subject line
• your organisations unique reference number (URN)
• the change to the registered person(s) including:
  • their name and date of birth
  • if they are joining or leaving your organisation
  • their role in your organisation
  • any other changes involving them
  • the date the change(s) take effect

What happens next

You will receive an email confirmation that we have received your request for changes.

We will let you know if we need any further information.

When someone starts any of the positions above in your daycare organisation, other than just being an additional contact, they must apply to Ofsted to be registered.
