The end of key stage 1 national curriculum tests and teacher assessments became optional from the academic year 2023 to 2024. Schools may however choose to use these tests to help identify where pupils need additional support as they transition into key stage 2.

This information is for parents with a child in year 2 at primary school. It includes information about:

  • the purpose of the optional tests
  • how they work and when they may be administered
  • how participating schools may use the results
