The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) commissioned an independent provider to conduct the Volunteering in the youth sector research.

This study builds on the Youth Provision and Life Outcomes research series commissioned by DCMS in 2022.

The report explores the ways in which volunteers support the youth sector, the roles they perform, and the impact they have.

A series of 20 case studies of youth organisations were carried out. The case studies reflect a range of youth organisations across England, ranging in delivery type, location, size and other characteristics. Each case study involved interviews with organisational leaders and volunteers, a volunteer survey, and an organisational audit completed by the leader.
